My friend lives near the 'slaughterhouse' of San Roque and my, I've experienced riding different types of vehicles :) Haven't experience riding this. My friend said that tricycles are fairly common but the prices can get high if you are not a good haggler. An effective tip she gave is that if you want to pay like only 50php...suggest that you will pay 40php and the driver will grumble and act as tho asking you to pay for 50php is a huuge favor so he'll be like, "Can you make it 50php?" =))) Success aye?
^The most common means of transportation is the motorcycle. You can also hire if you want but in far flung places, there's this thing called 'habal-habal' where a plank of wood is put between the driver and another passenger like ugh how to explain this just that the point is, two more people can sit on the plank of the wood so yeah with a skillful driver, he can accommodate up to 5 passengers :D
Some places make use of "pedicabs" or what the locals call simply as 'bike' :) Basically, it is a bicycle with a structure attached that can accommodate two passengers :) The fare is really cheap and sometimes my friend over pays because the paddling especially if the road curves upwards and add to the heat of this tropical country, it's really a tiring job and they are also discriminated. Like if you are associated with a pedicab driver as a lover, people will just laugh at you :'( But they are hard workers.
The place where she lives is called San Roque :) This is one of the views we passed by while riding the bike. She has to ride a bike+jeepney to get to school :) But her dad drives her to school with a motorcycle. Youths are into motorcycles and they can drive by the age of 18 I guess.
This is the view inside of an empty jeep. I've heard many funny stories from my friend about her jeepney riding experiences. She rides something like this everyday. There are certain unspoken etiquettes of course. Public Utility Jeepneys have names about their routes. Depending on the size, the dispatcher calls out the route and you climb in. No, the jeep when it is in the 'paradahan' or waiting point (? XD) will not move if the seats aren't filled. People who are picky and not used to being uncomfortable can't ride this thing because yes they will only go if they reached the quota of passengers so sometimes, when you're unlucky...there won't be any room to breathe xD
If you're really lucky, you'll get to pick where you will sit. A popular choice is in the front seat where you are with the driver or at the end because it's easier to climb down. You're also lucky if you will sit with someone who took a bath XD Seriously, you'll encounter crazy people haha. Some will gawk at you, some just listen to music, some are looking at the view...yeh pretty much. To get down on your stop, you use your coin to make a "noise" by knocking or tapping on the iron (?) they put above your head (where to hold while riding if ya want =)) or say, "Aqui lang!" or "Dito lang!" loudly for the driver to hear. Some jeepney install music playing equipments or radio.
Most often than not, jeepney drievers are also the 'konduktor' (conductor or the guy who collects the fare)...so yeh if you sit near the end, you say "pabor" or "paabot" so that other passengers will get your fare and transfer it to the hand of another passenger until it reaches the driver. Once in a while, you have to do it. I guess there are still other things but that's all I can say for now.
Where we are headed is this place called PASONANCA. My friend says that it's one of the nicest barangays in this city. This place is the haunt of teenagers and other families for the pool, the parks, restaurants and other places :) Too bad we can't explore this because we'll go to the apartment of the classmate of my friend.
Btw, that's a jeepney ;)
Where the apartment was located. Well, that's all I guess because on the way home, we rode a jeepney to reach the town proper and went to the stop of San Roque jeepneys and went home then rode a bike :) It was exhausting because the weather is really warm but I had fun :)
I'll show more places later ^w^
